Mibbinbah Spirit Healing is an innovative, community-driven initiative focused on empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander males through the establishment of culturally safe, male-centered environments. Founded in 2007 as a participatory action research program, Mibbinbah evolved into a health promotion charity in 2009, continuing to serve the community in its current form.
This approach utilises traditional healing practices and the art of yarning to facilitate profound cultural engagement. The evolution of Spirit Healing gatherings now includes inclusive environments where both men and women unite to celebrate their identities, enhance mutual understanding, and strengthen communal ties through cultural expression.
These gatherings serve as vital platforms for nurturing deep cultural connections, fostering a robust sense of identity, and promoting belonging. By reconnecting individuals with their culture and community, Mibbinbah effectively cultivates healing, resilience, and overall wellbeing, thus establishing a solid foundation for future generations. This presentation aims to share insights into the impact of Mibbinbah Spirit Healing on mental health and community cohesion, highlighting its significance in the broader context of men's health.
