The power of engaging men with community (129190)

I’m Hayden, a men’s worker from a community centre in Logan City. I have been working with men for nearly 4 years, and in my time, I have observed the ways which men engage with each other, with support systems, and with community. At the heart of this community, men are seeking mateship, social interaction and self-fulfillment. These men are either actively seeking it or finding themselves wanting these outcomes without being able to articulate their reasoning. This has shown me the innate desire for men wanting to be better. As a men’s worker, it has been my job to facilitate this need for men in the community. I have done this through various means, like hosting men’s programs, acting as a referral for men, networking with other men’s organisations and movements, running events and excursions, and raising awareness for key men’s issues and key men’s health dates. My presentation at the 2025 National Men’s Health Gathering will discuss the problems that men in Logan face, the work I do for them, the outcomes I observe, and the stories of some of these men.

Note: I am only available Wednesday, the 22nd October.
